Ben Folds is best known as a solo artist and as the front-man/pianist of Ben Folds Five. Ben Folds Five broke onto the scene as a refreshing break from the 90’s angst rock norm. Their power pop sound and punk ethos made them a must-see live act. Their Epic debut, 1997’s Whatever and Ever Amen, was pure pop perfection, and included the hugely successful ballad “Brick”.
In 1998, Folds planted the seeds for a solo career with his first solo record, Volume 1, under the pseudonym Fear of Pop. Ben Folds Five then released 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner. After a split with Ben Folds Five, Ben’s next solo album was 2001’s Rockin’ the Suburbs. A year later, he released a live album, Ben Folds Live, and followed it up with three EPs. His 2005 LP Songs for Silverman, was released to critical acclaim.
Consistently touring, Ben Folds has earned a reputation for his wit, musicality, and energetic live shows. His latest release, supersunnyspeedgraphic, the lp, hit stores in October ’06. Upon the release, Folds became the first artist to do a live performance webcast on Myspace.com. Now available as a DVD, Live at Myspace is available through select independent retailers or www.benfolds.com, where it is sold by Ben’s Attacked By Plastic label.
Ben is currently in the studio working on a new album slated for September release.
