At Bonefish Grill we believe that protecting and managing our ocean resources is key to maintaining the varied and abundant assortment of fresh fish we offer to our guests. We are proud to take part in celebrating our coastal communities around the world through Ocean Trust's conservation projects.
Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle Restoration
Bonefish Grill recently provided support to Ocean Trust at the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle Restoration in Tepehuajes, Mexico to help restore the population of one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world. Thanks to Ocean Trust and its partners, the camp has all the facilities and continuous support it needed to become the second largest sea turtle restoration site in the region. Daily patrols monitor nesting activity and relocate turtle eggs within protected corals for incubation and release hatchlings back into the wild.
Winter Flounder Stock Enhancement
A recent Bonefish Grill/Ocean Trust project is helping the local fishing community restore the stock of Winter Flounder off the coast of New York. By releasing 10,000 juvenile flounder into the area near the docks of East Hampton, Ocean Trust and the East Hampton Township are testing a restocking program to reestablish a thriving population that will lead to greater success for the local flounder fishermen after their original fishery collapsed.
Florida FISH Mangrove Reserve
On the west coast of Florida, near the Village of Cortez, Ocean Trust and Bonefish Grill joined the local fishing community in the restoration of one of the last remaining stands of mangrove habitat. The project area now known as the FISH Reserve is becoming a thriving habitat for plants and aquatic life alike, and a source of survival for one of the last coastal fishing villages in the state.
Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Enhancement
The Chesapeake Bay is home to the blue crab which has become a culinary favorite all through the East Coast. Here local fishermen and scientists are working to protect and enhance a sustainable crab fishery in the bay through hatchery and restocking programs. Bonefish Grill and Ocean Trust are pitching in to raise awareness and funds for the Chesapeake Bay blue crab population.
Bahia Grande Restoration
In Texas, Bahia Grande was once a flourishing wetland estuary supporting a rich population of fish, wildlife and migratory waterfowl. For the past 70 years it has been a barren landscape cut off from the Gulf of Mexico. Working with federal, state and local organizations, Ocean Trust has built a national partnership for one of the largest wetland restoration projects in the US to reconnect Bahia Grande to the Gulf of Mexico and restore over 10,000 acres of habitat as an important coastal estuary.
